A DAY SPENT WITH 10TH GRADE STUDENTS OF GOVERNMENT SCHOOL AT TEKAL, KOLAR DISTRICT

It was on 13th January, representing New Morning, five of us (Malathi, Sangavi, Latha, Shobha & myself) accompanied by Mr.Krishna Kumar of Aarambh Foundation travelled for three hours & reached a quaint rural village called Tekal, (Kolar district) for a day’s session to conduct Awareness sessions on Counselling and Emotional Wellness for the 10th standard students of a Government school. We started the First session at 11am. ‘General Awareness on Counselling’ was the topic, presented by Malathi & Sangavi. It was quite an interesting & interactive session. Students actively participated in the session. Post lunch session was on ‘Self Esteem’, conducted by Shobha & Latha. There was a Role play on self esteem by two students, which they enacted very well (We trained them in a very short time). Both the sessions were very well received by the students.

We held group Counselling sessions for boys & girls separately. Students came out with their problems of learning & recalling difficulties, lack of concentration, exam fear, anxiety, and career guidance etc., Many of them shared about their future plans too. We were asked to motivate them to prepare well for the examination, make them aware on mobile addiction, adolescent issues etc., In between the sessions we conducted few ice breaker activities & games which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the students. Even 8th & 9th std students requested us to conduct sessions for them. Mr. Krishna Kumar, staff & students were very happy. Children expressed heartfelt gratitude & demanded one more session for them. Feedback was quite motivating and encouraging one. It was our first Physical session at a rural school and we were quite amazed by their enthusiastic interaction. Heartfelt thanks to Mr. Krishna kumar of Aarambh foundation for organising this session.
